Deer and Doe Sirocco

Deer and Doe Sirocco

As I slowly get acclimated to going back into the office (at least for a few days a week), the more I’m realizing that I need workwear that’s secretly pajamas.  Enter the Sirocco jumpsuit by Deer and DoeSirocco is a knit jumpsuit with a mock wrap bodice, short sleeves and two pant lengths – short for a romper and long for a jumpsuit.  I’ve had the opportunity to make this pattern in the past, but I always skipped over it because the pattern didn’t include my size.  Thankfully, Deer and Doe is expanding their patterns to offer more inclusive sizing, going up to 58”/147 cm bust and a 60”/152 cm hip, so I jumped at the chance to make it.  Using maroon cotton jersey purchased from Hart’s Fabric, I whipped up a comfy Sirocco that I can wear from the office to happy hour to passing out on my couch.

Sirocco was such a breeze to sew!  If you have a serger, you could probably make this over the course of a morning and afternoon and wear it out the same evening.  I think it would be equally easy to sew using a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine.  My hip measurements are one inch bigger than the pattern’s measurements, but since this is a knit, I wasn’t too worried about it.  I was a little concerned that this style would accentuate my full tummy, but my concerns were unwarranted.  I replaced the clear elastic in the pockets for regular knitted elastic because, in my experience, clear elastic doesn’t have the longevity I look for in my me-made clothes.  Other than that, I made no alterations, and the jumpsuit fits perfectly.  When choosing a fabric, make sure you pick one with at least 50% stretch.  This is so important because there are no closures in the jumpsuit; you have to step into the garment, so you’ll need a stretchy fabric.  I absolutely love the final result and am now planning on making a floral wide-legged version for the spring.

  1. Wow wow wow! That jumpsuit is popping –the color, fabric, and fit. I’ve shied away from jumpsuit patterns because of ‘boobs/belly/booty’ concerns–thinking it would not be a good fit. But you nailed it–which is very encouraging. I will definitely look up this pattern. Thank you for posting this!
